Room to Roam. Close to Home.
Very few people know the full legacy of Adolph S. Ochs, the famous Chattanoogan who transformed the New York Times into “the newspaper of record” in the early 20th Century, and essentially created the notion of impartial journalism which now seems so imperiled by our current political climate.
At about the same time that Ochs was acquiring and transforming the Times, here in Chattanooga, Ochs was leading the move to preserve the point and much of the sides of Lookout Mountain, for public use. This he did by donating Point Park and virtually all of the land on the northern slopes of Lookout Mountain to the US Park Service as part of the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park. Now the view from Point Park is the Brand Mark of the City of Chattanooga, and attracts thousands of tourists every year.
The protected land also enhances the value of every home within walking distance of its extensive, beautiful trail system.
Here at Black Creek, we have been inspired by this example to dedicate thousands of acres to conservation through donation to the Trust for Public Land and the Tennessee River Gorge Trust. When added to the massive holdings of the River Gorge Trust in the “Grand Canyon of the Tennessee,” the entire community at Black Creek, both in the valley and up on the mountain, will be adjacent to thousands of acres of protected land.
Under our agreements with the conservation trusts we have built and will continue to build miles of trails, so that those who live in Black Creek will be able to step right into nature within minutes, all while living just 10 minutes from downtown Chattanooga.
That’s why we say about Black Creek, there’s
Room to Roam.
